5 reasons why you should ride the Haute Route Crans-Montana

Switzerland is a  true paradise for cyclists. A fine selection of beautiful  mountain roads where both silence and tranquility reign. You will find some of the most beautiful passes and cols in Europe in the most magnificent postcardsque landscapes.  For road bikers the terrain around Crans-Montana is the perfect playground.

Here are the 5 reasons why you should participate in the Haute Route Crans-Montana.

Ride on the roads of the Giro 2023

In 2023, the Haute Route is back in Crans-Montana, and the Giro d'Italia has also been seduced by the authentic Swiss resort town for two of the stages of its 2023 edition. The 13th stage of the Giro will arrive at the top of the resort of Crans Montana, just like the 1st stage of the Haute Route Crans-Montana. The next day, the Giro d'Italia peloton will head back to its homeland from Sierre, the starting point of the last two stages of the Haute Route Crans Montana. Truly allowing you to experience the routes of the pros!

Complete your Bucketlist : col du Sanetsch

The most iconic climb of this 2023 edition of the Haute Route Crans-Montana is certainly the Col du Sanetsch. The Sanetsch is 25 kilometers long and has 1700 meters of ascent. On paper, it has similar characteristics to the most prestigious passes and cols in the world, but it has a major advantage. There is only one road up to the summit, so the pass is rarely used by cars.

It is one of the most popular Swiss passes for cyclists thanks to its wild and splendid nature. Starting in the heart of the vineyards and then traversing dense forests before reaching the large mountain pastures which offer a clear view of the Pennine Alps. It is a climb like no other, and a true bucket list ride!

A perfect destination for a first Haute Route

Are you hesitating to ride your first Haute Route? Are you wondering which event would be the most suitable to start the adventure? The Haute Route Crans-Montana is the perfect event for a first time experience or a return to the Haute Route. With its 3-day format, reasonable distance (200km), splendid passes and a worthwhile challenge (7450M+), all the ingredients are there to start your adventure or to get back in the saddle.

The barrage de Moiry

The other highlight of this Haute Route Crans-Montana will be the ascent of the Moiry dam. Here again we have the tranquility of climbing a dead-end road which will allow you to appreciate the panorama over the Moiry valley including the views of the imposing dam itself. The climb is not over yet, but the beautiful turquoise waters will accompany you to the end of the Lac de Moiry. At the summit of the climb at over 2250m, take the time to appreciate the unique landscape overlooking the magnificently high altitude Swiss glaciers.

An opportunity to sharpen up before the summer

For the most experienced cyclists, the Haute Route Crans-Montana is an opportunity to improve their form in a splendid environment and in the best possible conditions to prepare for the summer season. Taking place at the end of spring, from 9th to 11th June, it is the ideal moment to start accumulating both kilometers and adding up the meters climbed with the nicest sparring partners and the same services afforded to the pros during their training camps. There is no better preparation for your next Haute Route.
